The device sticking up from the rear of the battle compartment is a Tamiya "TBU" which is connected to a battle circuit for game play.

It is sort of like lazertag for tanks.

And no a laser pointer will not set off the IR sensors( I did tests to find out)

The Jagdpanther conversion is powered by El Mod electronics and has a "aftermarket" battle circuit from Tankhobby.
All the HL electronics have beem removed and replaced with a 6ch radio.
The El Mod electronics provide control and engine sound, the Battle circuit provides fire and hit sounds, all this so I can do battle with the Tamiya tanks.
