Basically a Pantiger, whilst not being a "real tank" is a crude/slang reference to Heng Long's Panther, which rather than remake/remould new lower-hull/wheels/tracks etc they just reused the Heng Long Tiger 1's chassis and adapted the Panther to fit - hence "PanTiger". It's too wide/broad, wrong tracks and wheels. Matotoys has the proper metal Panther wheels and tracks for anyone wanting their HL Panther to look more like the real thing. It still passes as a Panther either way, pity they used orange for the camo job

It's an IR battle sensor, unsure of what make (Tamiya TBU etc) as I'm not well-conversed in that dept. They generally have 4 "hit" LEDs, one facing front/back/left/right to detect incoming IR "shots" from other tanks. They get hit, tank slows down, get hit a few more times and they jitter about and blow up (well, stall.... wait 15 seconds.... tank restarts)

Thank you thought they had something to do with the lazer tag for rc tanks. Wonder will a lazer pointer set them off or just the lazer from another tank? If a pointer will set them off someone could cheat couldn't they?

Pzrwest,
The device sticking up from the rear of the battle compartment is a Tamiya "TBU" which is connected to a battle circuit for game play.
It is sort of like lazertag for tanks.
And no a laser pointer will not set off the IR sensors( I did tests to find out
)
The Jagdpanther conversion is powered by El Mod electronics and has a "aftermarket" battle circuit from Tankhobby.
All the HL electronics have beem removed and replaced with a 6ch radio.
The El Mod electronics provide control and engine sound, the Battle circuit provides fire and hit sounds, all this so I can do battle with the Tamiya tanks.
Hope this helps.

Ok I think I understand the principle it's similar to remote controls for tv's, vcr's etc. It is a infared systems that uses different pluse refequencies which is totally different from a lazer pointer

My Feedback: (3)
Here's what mine looks like after a paint job and I added the Mato metal track set and he metal road wheels. The Mato stuff installed easily and it runs good but, since the tracks are not as wide as the Tiger tracks it makes the tank look wimpy. I did not use any spacers for any of the wheels.

Pzr,
Close, and you get the cigar! Yes, it uses a simple pulse train in IR to represent the cannon shot. And, yes, you could modify the laser pointer to fire the same pulse string, and cheat, but the laser pointer (which also emits pulsed, not continuous output) would be easy for other players to detect.
Your best solution would be to build an IR laser (from an IR Illuminator (used with night vision systems) or high power emitter) which sends the same pulse string as your battle unit. Yes, you could even use your IR remote as a base. Couple of 555 timers and some caps and resistors, maybe a pass transistor for the high power diode, nothing to it really.
The big problem would be explaining to your oponents why you are running around the battle field pointing at thier tanks and avoiding becomming a tank obsticle (sp?) on the BF after being caught.......... LOL

You could cheat, but on a crowded battlefield you risk hitting your own team. If the IR beam was really narrow, you'd have a hard time trying to hit your target. At a range of over 10' the Tamiya Battle Unit (TBU) will only receive hits at 90 degress (0, 90, 180, 270). This is to simulate distant angled shots bouncing off the armor.

For a second I thought it was my Panther!
Colors look nearly the same. Perry, that's a stock turret. If you make it scale you loose the gun elevation unit unless you run different electronics or figure something else out.
Having said that, I hope HL comes out with a more compact barrel elevation unit, then they could whip out Shermans all day long, and we could make our Panthers and PZIIIs look a little more scale.

Looks great but it's time to tear it apart, cut it up and make it more accurate looking! BUILD it! BUILD it! BUILD it!!!!
Be the first to take 5mm off each pannier and 10mm of the center of the upper hull. Then when you put the new metal tracks and road wheels made just for the Pantiger it'll look even better then the rest of ours! BUILD it! BUILD it! BUILD it!!!

Patients, swathdiver, I have that build in mind for on or around the New Year! Right now I am learning all of the upgrade mods on these models there are always little tricks, adjustments and mods to all of these upgrades, nothing fits just right!
My other main focus it testing the Battle systems for the Heng Long! I had a trial battle out doors yeaterday with Darkith's system and it went well overall. In direct sunlight I had a few inconsistancy but I will take Darkith advice and see if that solves some of those issues. I got a better idea of the sound restraints that Scatpatton was reffering to as well. But overall I consider the first outdoor test a huge success, and the PanTiger Beat the Panzer III in best of seven scrimages! Next I want to test the El Mod battle system (CSI) And at some point get up to SCAT to have some scrimages with the Tamiya system! But that build is on the schedule and it will be a new tank, the current PanTiger is what it is, I'm not affended if you call it a *******!
I like your motivation and encouragement though, keep it up! [:@]
