Default RE: Wing Repair 101

After removing the covering from the bottom of the left wing I saw the center support of all the ribs was broken. I also noticed the sheeting on the upper surface of the wingtip was cracked, which will be an easy fix. None of the ribs looked to be difficult to repair so it was on to the huge hole in the upper surface.

The covering was removed from the center section showing the extent of the damage. The root rib is plywood, which I’ll call Rib# 1 as is the 4th rib out – Rib #4. The forward half of Ribs #2 & #3 are crushed. The sheeting is crushed and split between ribs R1 and R4.
