RE: Goldberg Protege assembly
As you can see, Moondogie, I have the Tiger 60. I started out with an OS 61 SF. By the way, that was my second plane. I had that engine on there for several months, but it clearly needed a front bearing. So, I took it off one day and put a Super Tigre 75 on. That seemed to wake it up a bit, and I was ready for the 'upgrade'. But the muffler guts broke internally and it made noises like a bell ringing while flying. Because the plane was red, guys at the club would say 'Here comes Santa's plane'.
I called their 'hot line' and told them about it. They immediately sent me a new muffler. So, I swapped that out and flew it. Well, about 5 or so flights later, here comes Santa again. So, I again called Super Tigre distributor and complained. Their solution was not to send me a new muffler, but to suggest that I call MACS and get a tuned pipe for the thing.
Well, that REALLY woke up that Tiger 60. It had pretty good flight characteristics already, but that tuned pipe... well, verticals for a relatively new pilot, were awsome!!!
So, I think that moving up to the 75 AX on the Protege is probably going to be a bit of the same thing, perhaps a bit more. I do own three of the 1.20 AX's and love them, so this will just add to my collection.
I will add my flying experience here when I maiden that jewel, probably over the long weekend.
