Default Buddy Box question

I'm using a Futaba Skysport T4YF as a buddy box connected to a Hitec Optic 6. This setup has worked fine for 3 channel airplanes like the T-Hawk, but doesn't work when I try it with a Stryker or Seagull 300 Extra. When the buddy box takes over, the ailerons go in directions not expected and do not operate the way they should. Fortunately I've tested this on the bench before trying it at the field :-).

I tried reversing the channels on the skysport but to no avail. I know the Stryker needs a radio that is computerized for elevons, but I would think the Skysport would use that as well and just pass stick movements through the Optic 6 to the plane. That doesn't seem to be the case. Do you need a computerized buddy box to fly a plane that needs a computerized function even though the instructor radio has that capability? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
