I'm using a Futaba Skysport T4YF as a buddy box connected to a Hitec Optic 6. This setup has worked fine for 3 channel airplanes like the T-Hawk, but doesn't work when I try it with a Stryker or Seagull 300 Extra. When the buddy box takes over, the ailerons go in directions not expected and do not operate the way they should. Fortunately I've tested this on the bench before trying it at the field :-).
I tried reversing the channels on the skysport but to no avail. I know the Stryker needs a radio that is computerized for elevons, but I would think the Skysport would use that as well and just pass stick movements through the Optic 6 to the plane. That doesn't seem to be the case. Do you need a computerized buddy box to fly a plane that needs a computerized function even though the instructor radio has that capability? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I really don't know either so I will just throw a dart at it.
Does a buddy box 6 channel to 6 channel allow you the use of the extra channels on the trainer? ie.. flaps and retracts?
I know I have used some computer functions on the master and it worked fine on the 4 channel Skyport like dual rates, end point adjustments, and subtrims (dual rates would have to be switch on the master)
Perhaps because flaperons or elevons or stuff like that requires extra channels?
Like I said I just threw a dart and it was a wild throw at that

I am running dual aileron servos. Perhaps the problem is that the Skysport model I have is 4 channel, and my setup requires one aileron on channel 6. I was hoping a buddy box setup would just pass the stick (gimble) movements and use all other features of the Instructor radio, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Try using a Y harness for both aileron servos. and put them both on the same channel.
If all the other controls function right.

Although when you get to the point you are ready to fly a Stryker or extra 300 you are probably past the point where you need a buddy box.

My Feedback: (1)
I don't think the problem is with your 4 channel Skysport buddy box - it's with the HiTech Optic's trainer system. On my Futaba 9C system it's trainer system can be set up to pass down all the mixes and programming on the master radio to the slave or training radio.
Quoted from the 9C user's manual - Trainer system includes the “functional” (FUNC) setting, which allows the student to use the 9C super’s mixing, helicopter, and other programming functions even with a 4-channel buddy box. (Optional trainer cord required.)
