Yes the 3600 is a JR compatable rx however you cannot use the JR single conversion crystal. Never mix brands of crystals in the device of another brand.

As you described using a single conversion JR Rx crystal will not work in your Hitec Rx.

Order a new dual conversion Hitec Rx crystal (blue stripe) on the channel # of your choice.
