First Post and some observations
Hello everyone,
First off, greetings from wild, wet and very rural Scotland to one and all.
I am very new to the World of R/C Tanks although I have loads of experience modelling 1/35 scale WW2 armour and Sci-Fi subjects.
Two weeks ago I took the plunge and got myself a Heng Long sound and smoke Tiger 1 model. The model is nice and I have had a lot of fun with it but being experienced in 1/35 armour I noted that it had a few obvious flaws. The main gun was too short; the martlet was the wrong way around and the command cupola was way too high. I sorted the gun problem with the insert that is available, wee tip here, use a pipe cutter for a clean accurate cut, although now it does not fire but I have read the post about that on the Forum. I decide to leave the martlet as is, a case of letting sleeping dogs lie. The smoke units I left off as I did not see any in reference photos I have. I also covered the tank in the ‘Zimmerit’ kit that is available and that went on nicely but then the problem!
How do you remove the exhaust etc from the back panel to apply the Zimmerit? Any help on this would be very much appreciated.
Otherwise the tank has been painted up to represent a Tiger 1 of SS Schwer Abteilung 101 LAH in Normandy 1944. All the tank’s insignia are hand painted which was a bit of a nightmare, all that is left to do is the turret numbering.
I shall replace the command cupola with an after market part and add some spare track links to the turret sides in the near future.
I also thought that the command figure as sold is horrible but a coat of primer revealed a not too bad sculpture under the lousy Heng Long paint job. A wee bit of work and he is now a Hauptsturmfuhrer in what I think is the correct uniform colours.
Anyway, I shall post some photos of the tank shortly and again any help with the Zimmerit question appreciated.
Best wish,
Dougie
