Default First Post and some observations

Hello everyone,

First off, greetings from wild, wet and very rural Scotland to one and all.

I am very new to the World of R/C Tanks although I have loads of experience modelling 1/35 scale WW2 armour and Sci-Fi subjects.

Two weeks ago I took the plunge and got myself a Heng Long sound and smoke Tiger 1 model. The model is nice and I have had a lot of fun with it but being experienced in 1/35 armour I noted that it had a few obvious flaws. The main gun was too short; the martlet was the wrong way around and the command cupola was way too high. I sorted the gun problem with the insert that is available, wee tip here, use a pipe cutter for a clean accurate cut, although now it does not fire but I have read the post about that on the Forum. I decide to leave the martlet as is, a case of letting sleeping dogs lie. The smoke units I left off as I did not see any in reference photos I have. I also covered the tank in the ‘Zimmerit’ kit that is available and that went on nicely but then the problem!

How do you remove the exhaust etc from the back panel to apply the Zimmerit? Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

Otherwise the tank has been painted up to represent a Tiger 1 of SS Schwer Abteilung 101 LAH in Normandy 1944. All the tank’s insignia are hand painted which was a bit of a nightmare, all that is left to do is the turret numbering.

I shall replace the command cupola with an after market part and add some spare track links to the turret sides in the near future.

I also thought that the command figure as sold is horrible but a coat of primer revealed a not too bad sculpture under the lousy Heng Long paint job. A wee bit of work and he is now a Hauptsturmfuhrer in what I think is the correct uniform colours.

Anyway, I shall post some photos of the tank shortly and again any help with the Zimmerit question appreciated.

Best wish,

Dougie

Welcome aboard Dougie, I would gently prise on the rear exhaust till the glue gives away ( or the plastic breaks but then you deal with that ). There are 2 camps on the airsoft guns here, I am in the one that rarely if ever uses them and convert most of my tanks to infrared combat. The other camp would contain people like Swathdiver and Perry who fine tune there guns and blow things to bits. Lots to be learned here from both camps. Its tradition here to post pics of your projects so we can enjoy the full scope of your efforts. On a side note I met some Scotsmen this weekend and boy can they drink and have a good time

Hi General,

I shall take your advice with the rear exhausts and gun. On the side note, being able to drink is on our birth certificates here! LOL!

I shall try and get some photos done today but it is so miserable and wet and outside pics are IMHO better.

Thanks for the advice.

Dougie, since you have the zimmerit kit, no problem with the mantlet being backwards....I solved that problem by simply placing the zimmerit on the gun shield the correct way. You can always move the MG LED if you want.

Great Paint Job! If there's not too much glue underneath you could flip the cupola to the right position and then add some details to it. The mantlet is easy to flip.

Opps, check for those screws before prising as I first suggested ! Its always a good idea to open up new HL tanks, sometimes the antenna wire is off or some extra parts from the factory end up lying around in there. Nice camo job, the zimm looks great
