I'm at the opposite end from OZ. I never saw the GWS C-47 fly, but have seen the cargo plane fly. The flyer was an expert level flyer and made it look easy, but I bought three GWS warbirds from him (Mustang, Corsair, Zero) that also looked very easy to fly when they were in his hands, but in my hands they are a real handfull, particularly to land without damage. The flyer said that he had to make some extensive modifications to the cargo plane to make it fly well.

I don't think that either of these planes would be good for you at this time. Consider getting a good high wing aileron plane, like the Multiplex MiniMagistar (Minimag). I've seen several that have been painted to give them a really good apperance, and their flight characteristics are great.
