Default RE: Looking for the perfect build

As for color that has been a big debate all the time. As a collector and re-enactor the big debate has been on the shade or color of field grey. Since it all depends on the dye lot, different manufacturer, date made, whether virgin wool or reclaimed wool, and what the wool was made from. It can vary from more green through to more brownish. For years modelers thought that the collars on german tunics were black or that the SS had black collars but in fact the early collars(pre 1940) were a "bottle green". Same applied to german paint for tanks etc. All depended on the company that blended the paint, how fresh the paint was, how long it was exposed to air, light, and the weather, and also what the paint was mixed with before applied to the vehicle. In the field they received a concentrated paint that was to be "cut" or mixed with a base color paint so shades could vary on the ratio that the paint guy followed.
