Looking for the perfect build
#1
Was looking for advice for the next build project.( I feel i'm getting a bad reputation building un-orthadox vehicles here on the forum, want to improve my image )I'm leaning toward a German type tank,Mabe a Tiger. It must me authentic in every detail and not toy like in apearence.(but must be 1/16 scale). I will need advice while building this tank because my lack of breading never allowed me to come in contact with people who built these tanks,or at the very least drove one.My biggest fear would be to have one of these people show up at my doorstep and here I would have a model on the work bench with a pistol port turned the wrong way,or find out my cannon was 1 MM to short or to long. And if someone would suggest the wrong paint color I would just screem.
Please advise----BIGMIG--[:-][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif][sm=confused.gif]

Build a German mouse. I'ts large you can't see much of the tracks, not much detail, and lot's of armor. Besides the fact you'll have the only one on the block and drive the detail freaks crazy!!! because of the lack of info.

BIGMIG I don't think there is a model out there built by anyone that is "perfect". Someone somewhere will find fault with what ever model is built. It is all in the eye of the beholder. What appeals to one person may not appeal to another and we all have our opinions. As once was said " you can please some of the people sometimes but you can't please all the people all the time". If you are happy with a project you have done then that's all that matters!!!!

As for color that has been a big debate all the time. As a collector and re-enactor the big debate has been on the shade or color of field grey. Since it all depends on the dye lot, different manufacturer, date made, whether virgin wool or reclaimed wool, and what the wool was made from. It can vary from more green through to more brownish. For years modelers thought that the collars on german tunics were black or that the SS had black collars but in fact the early collars(pre 1940) were a "bottle green". Same applied to german paint for tanks etc. All depended on the company that blended the paint, how fresh the paint was, how long it was exposed to air, light, and the weather, and also what the paint was mixed with before applied to the vehicle. In the field they received a concentrated paint that was to be "cut" or mixed with a base color paint so shades could vary on the ratio that the paint guy followed.

It's only perfect if it is something you will enjoy building..Like my current build the T34 APV I know some guys are thinking I destroyed a perfectly good tank. Not all my tanks have to be the same as everyone else's....Tiger tank could be good build for you. If that is what you want to build. As for you mentioning the gun port turned the wrong way...Mine is on my Tiger Tank No body ever noticed!!!! I had my Tank at my LHS where I get paint and such, big Model enthusiasts there not a word was said....

BIGMIG... BIGMIG.
You must conform. CONFORM! Make your tanks and vehicles just like everyone else's.
We don't like different here.
Just kidding.

You are a bright spark my friend. Don't change.

If you like scratcbuilding, I think this would be an awesome 1/16 rc project, and probably not a very difficult one.
German Schwerer Kampfwagen A7V from WW1... how good would one of these be rumbling across the front lawn?

When I started this post above it was meant to be a "JOKE" in part, but also was to make a "point".I know a lot of guys on here get very serious about detail and accuracy about their tanks. Also realize many have knowlege about the history and historical facts about these tanks and try very hard to duplicate their tanks accordingly.(sorry my spelling is not great, you will get the point)And also understand how much skill some of you have and how much work goes into getting the detail that you achieve. This forum is full of fantasic models that have been done by various members.
I understand and even injoy most of it,I do read most of the posts here on the forum. This forum " I THINK" was meant to show your stuff and share different ideas and offer help to others who might want to enter into this hobby. We are all into this at different levels
and a lot of latitude should be allowed to keep the hobby and the forum active.
Getting to my point(not trying to write a book).I know the heading is (TANK FORUM) and I kind of pushed past that a little by adding
other military vehicles that I thought would kind of fall into this catagory just because I was adding tracks.Didn't think anyone would really get upset over that and its just one post on a page of many.(guess I will have to rethink that Idea)Thought It might be of interest to some and not really interfear with the main topic of the forum. Was all just being done for fun and no technical accuracy
intended.
I think it would be nice to consider the following==When someone is Posting thier build as such, not asking Questions(example==What do you think about this, should i do this or should i do that,do you like it,what color do you think i should paint it,ect, ect)Read it or leave it.If you see something that may be helpfull and it can be suggested in a nice way,go for it.
But don't inter-ject a bunch of negative stuff in the middle of someone's post for the simple reason that someone who is really interested in the project has to read through all this crap everytime when they are following the build. If you just can't stand it,at least add your comments at the end of the build.Or better yet start your own post and show everyone how you would have done it.
If its not your cup of tea, stay out of it.The people who are interested in it don't really care if you don't like it.( This is what I have the most trouble understanding, what are you in there for in the first place)
To close this out hope some will remember,WORLD WAR II has been over for more than 62 years now. Most of the people who were building, running, and working with these tanks are mostly dead.Historical correctness for your tank will probbly never be questioned
by your neighbor next door, your safe.I think you could paint your tank PINK and there would be only a thousand people or less in the entire world who would know that was the wrong color choice. But your problem is most of them seem to be here on the RC FORUM------Reguards to all------BIGMIG

Quoted for posterity (before Bigm.. deletes it )
This is a forum big mig, that means it's for everyone to post their opinion. You can't EXPECT to hear what YOU WANT from others all the time; if you can't take it, then dont post your 'toy' builds, instead, get help.

It's a public forum.
If someone is getting in a big huff and puff over some comments that weren't even directed towards them I suggest that they take the forums a little more lightly. Some things you can post on here get praise, sometimes they get odd-stares, oohs and aahs, and other times they can be shot down - thats the nature of the beast - forums are a collection of people, all from different backgrounds, a mass of knowledge and opinion. Just because all the opinions arent like your own, or theyre saying something you didnt want to hear, doesnt mean the whole world is against you and that it's time to pack up shop - this would be terribly petty and immature.
People interject into people's builds because I don't know how many times I've seen some great advice given mid-build, sometimes changing a build for the better, or adding new-features not thought of (or thought un-implementable) by the builder/modder. This is what I love about the forums. Obviously if someone was copping a ton of flak over something - their ideas or their work - I would have a rethink ("why are these people saying this?"), but that is not the case here in this particular example...

I think it's time to shut this one down and rename it. I've never been a real so called detail freek. But I do enjoy a good build and good ideas. At times I find humor in some of the detail remarks. After all if we were all the same, the world would be a boring place. Rename it In search of the perfect Child, because after all I think i've found him. This has been a lesson in poor taste.

I sure agree with a lot of what you said above.I was taught respect when I was a youngster and hope I'm not lacking of it today.
