Default RE: Let's talk about wind

I did a maiden on a 13.7 oz plane today (well actually a re-maiden as it had flown before but was new to me) in winds that where 17 gusting to 24. Its a plane I just stole..... uh, I mean acquired rather inexpensively (the seller is having sellers remorse) and the programming on the radio was, shall we say, not programmed to my desired standards (servo's plugged in the wrong slots, controls not responding to the switches properly, throws set incorrectly so I just did a reset and went from there). Lots of fun flying backwards and hovering 3 ft away at head height, with multiple rolls tossed in just for fun at waist height.

Now the disclaimer - newbies, don't try this your self until you have some good experience as this little bird was a real handful at times.........

I've learned, for the most part, that wind is relative only if your mind lets it be. While gusts can be an issue, the plane doesn't know the wind is blowing, all it knows its flying at a certain airspeed. You have to be mindful of it, respect it when down close and know the limitations of you and the plane your flying. I have a couple of larger planes that are no fun in the wind while the small one is a real blast to fly in the same or worse conditions.
