RE: CRT engine/pipe options
Honestly your better to spend a little more right now and buy a good engine... The STS 30 is a powerful motor, but its very finicky and proven to be not overly durable.... in a Truggy a motor spins alot higher RPM's then a motor would in a MT. So the STS motors tend to break cranks alot when subjected to Truggy type RPM's... Another thing to consider as well is the STS motors come from factory with extremely tight pinch, they can take up 2 full gallons to break in and start performing decent...and as a rule these motors run excessively hot and tend to burn out exhaust couplers very quickly..... So its my opinion that these STS motors end up costing you more inthe long run to get them to working order....The long break in is the killer for me..
A Picco 28 is a rock solid italian built motor known to be very rugged and durable... It has excelent tolerances and machining from factory and tends to break in very easily, the motor will actualy perform extremely well even on first tank... The motor will be still tight, but its will still run very well.... though it does take a Picco about 1.5 gallons to really open up on top end, the motor is still a powerhouse right off the bat....a STS 30 can be slug for a very long time.....
Also the Picco is very robust, it has a huge beefy crankpin, big beefy crankshaft..very thick sleeve, and a nicely machined piston, its built to last ... Not to mention the Picco makes huge amounts of power, easily the strongest onthe list of yours
the best pipe for a P3 28 is a 086 on a short conical header... JP-3 also works well so does a JP-2... as well as a 053....actualy the P3 28 is really strong on almost any pipe... the 086/s conical combo is what will give you the absolute peak output of that engine....but the Picco makes soo much power anyways that pretty much any old pipe will work.....
