You might want to consider a small college town. A good university will attract people from around the world. Given that, the "locals" tend to be a bit more tolerant and accepting of foreign individuals. Also, there is a good chance you will find at least a handful of your countrymen around so you won't feel totally disconnected from your roots. I happen to live in such a town and really enjoy the diversity of the area. You name the nationality and I bet I've run across a representative.
