I have to back the calls for Northern California, I am an Englishman and I live near San Jose, it is very safe not that big city like even if it is the 10th biggest in the US. The best thing is there are alot of europeans in this area, being the heart of silicone valley it is expensive, but the local economy is very good and you might be able to find something here. The local clubs are very good, including mine.
