RE: Hi all. Need some pointers.
I've never flown [link=http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSVC9&P=0]this plane[/link] (Lanier Giles 202 17.5%, but it looks like it might fit what you're looking for. Its designed for a .25-40, so you're .46 LA might work fine in it. I have a 46 LA and its actually a good engine as long as you're not looking for screaming high RPMs. With an 11X4 prop, you might actually get some 3D performance with this plane. There's one review here on RCU that indicates the directions in the kit are pretty poor, and you might have some difficulty if its you're first build, but taking your time and getting some help would probably be worth it.
Just keep in mind that Kits are generally more expensive in the long run than an ARF, but you get a better built plane. Factor into your budget at least two rolls of covering (roughly $30), tools to do the covering (heat gun and iron), glues, sand paper, hardware, wheels, etc. Since you have the engine and radio, you can probably have this flying for $150 total investment. Also make sure you have room to let it sit.
Check out the Kit Builders forum for advice as well.
