RE: DL-50 engine
Just thought of something technical to talk about. The DL50 I mentioned that has less than a gallon through it was on another plane to start the break in process. The throttle linkage wasn't a very good setup, most of the power came in the first third of the stick movement. I readjusted the end travel of the wide open throttle position by reducing it until the rpm dropped, then increased it slightly. It flew fine, but when I went to run the fuel out of it so I could take the engine to Florida, it would not prime. I probably rotated the prop 100 times and still didn't get a pop. This is with the choke closed and the throttle stick all the way up. I finally increased the end travel of the wide open throttle position back to what originally was, after that it primed in about five rotations, and popped on the first flip with the ignition on. Moral of the story is the throttle plate needs to be wide open to get it to prime easily. BTW, this is with fuel in the tank. Once the engine was warmed up, I drained the tank and restarted the engine to get the fuel out of the carb.
The throttle linkage setup needs to be improved. I'm using the blue Hitec servo arm on the throttle, but it needs to be longer even with a small arm on the servo. What are the rest of you guys using for your setups. I'd like to get both the throttle end travel adjustments to at least 100%.
