I have been running my Power 46 with a Castle 80 amp ESC and using the ESC for receiver power. I haven't had any issues, but have had issues with other Castle ESCs with my Spektrum. It's probably a good idea to use a UBEC or recevier pack just to be safe.

Instead of the o-rings use those hair scrungies that girls use to tie their hair back. They work great and last much longer. Also, if you want a good pilot figure for you plane check out Aces of Iron. They have some awsome pilot busts.
