No OEM can legally void your warranty for running "the wrong" oil. If the oil used at the point of failure is of the same quality as specified by the OEM they have to honor the warranty as stated. Brands specific warranty denial is not possible in the US. A manufacturer can threaten it but it wont hold up. Trust me I have been there.

According to the Magnuson-Moss act, if there is a brand specific oil for warranty, It must be supplied at no cost with the product itself.. Thats the law in the U S of A.
The key to your argument is BRAND specific. The manufacturer may specify a TYPE of oil and if not used MAY void the warranty. I am curious how many folks offering legal advice in this thread would be "Attorney's Qualified in this particular area of the law". I know some are engineers, are there any lawyers among us?
