I have a tip as well. If it's applicable, try to go to as many airfields as you can find near your home. I have several within reasonable distance.
My reason is there are many different types of personalities that seem to stay with the field. Lately, I have been going to an airfield a little farther from my house but the members are very friendly. Much more than the other fields I have visited. This particular place, people have approached me quite a bit, asking if I'd like to go to club events, If I need any help with my plane or learning to fly it, even directed me to this website. It seems I'm already accepted into their club. This is the club I will join.
This is a hobby I want to do for the fun of it.I want to do it with people that seem like fun folks.
