If it's a CD drive, that's why. Those games are on DVDs. Changing your RAM or graphics card shouldn't have any effect on your optical drives. If your RAM is the wrong speed or configured incorrectly in your computers BIOS, that can cause files being copied from the DVDs (like when installing) to give CRC errors, or create corrupt files on your hard disk as they are copied over.
