You can either complement the existing HL electronics, or replace them entirely, depending on the modules that you choose. According to what I've gathered from others, elmod components can be rather pricy, but they are more superior to the Tamiya electronics because they offer more features. And yes, they also offer IR battle systems which are compatible with Tamiya's one.

IMHO, whether it is worth it or not will depend on what you already have or have not. If you have the $$$ and time and don't have any tank to start of with, then I suggest you get the Tamiya tank. But if you already have one (or more) HL tanks, then it may be cheaper and better to get the Elmod system alone. Not sure about you, but in my coutnry, the latter option is cheaper.

Maybe some guys here with the elmod system can give a better answer. BTW, I'm also thinking about the elmod system (already have a Tamiya system), but the problem is - I'm not sure how to order it without my wife knowing about it...
