The SPA rules specify that flaps may be used if on the original aircraft. The idea being that you don't modify the control surfaces (add flaps, etc) that were on the original design. Since I am not modifying the control surfaces, but simply using the capabilities of a computer radio to aid in flight, I don't see a problem with it. I also use mixing to aid in knife edge, point rolls, etc. The same principles apply.
BTW, we will be hosting our 7th annual SPA contest in June this year. Our club is in Newport News, VA. Any chance you may want to participate?
