RE: Mix aileron into elevator?
Me too, after 30 years, a few years back I started 3d. I still have a habit of talking more then flying, but the guys that really get good just refill and keep flying.
As far as slow speed ailerons, I think that you'll find slow to be a plus in learning 3d.
Ailerons when starting out with 3d only need to be effective enough to stop a torque roll in a hover,
as you get better you will want more for anti-torque rolls and point torque rolling.
Remember a blast of throttle will kick in the ailerons should you need it to roll quickly.
