Default RE: Club Combat in West Tennessee

ORIGINAL: rsbwing

Hello,
It looks like our club here in Harford County Maryland has some guys that are interested in doing this type of combat. Would you be so kind as to create a list of additional items and recommend equipment for the Battle AXE SSC's to get things going.
Thanks,
Robert
Hi Robert, there are just a few things you'll need to complete the kit.

You will need Fiberglass Bi-Directional tape. This tape has stands two directions and gives the wing most of it's strength. You can get a 21-yd roll (1 airplane) at some office stores for around $9-10 per roll, which will do one aiplane. We have an economy 60-yd roll (about 3 airplanes) for $12.99.

Final covering by econokote or colored packing tape is optional. The covering makes the plane a little prettier and aerodynamic, but adds an ounce or two, which isn't that big of a deal. You can fly the plane in bare fiberglass bi-directional tape.

The kit is designed specifically to work with either micro MG servos (such as HS-81MG or CS-12MG) or standard-size servos (S3004 or equivalent). Either will be fine. Using 3 standard servos will add about 2 ounces compared to micros. This won't be a big issue unless you're competing on the national level. Half the guys at our field are using full-size servos and they are competitive.

The Battle Axe will accomodate either a standard "7-channel" receiver or a mini-reciever such as Electron 6 or 2.4 gHz. You can use a 350 mAh NiCad or 750 mAh Ni-mH (AAA size).

The easiest way to get the fuel/control accessories is to add the pre-assembled accessory kit for the Battle Axe. If you want to get them from Tower, you'll need a few control linkages. We like Dubro horns (#437 I think). Get a 4-ounce tank. If you're using standard servos, use the Dubro 4oz square tank. With Micro servos either Dubro tank or Hayes Slimline tank will work, but we prefer the Slimline.

All combat planes are built with Elmer's "Ultimate" polyurethane glue. You can pick up a bottle of this (or the "Gorilla Glue" ) brand at walmart. One bottle will do a lot of airplanes.

And last but not least, Master Airscrew 8x3 props. They are the spec prop you'll need if you want to fly in an offical contest, and the .15's run really well on them.

Let us know how we can help you. We're looking forward to chasing your streamer!
