Default RE: Deception or Tiporare?

ORIGINAL: rainedave

Wasn't there a scaled-up Tipo (the Hippo?) that would be a good choice for your .90?

David
The ST90 is the same size and weight as any of the current 60's (20.7 oz without muffler), so it's not an issue for me. With a Jett muffler it turns similar RPM as many of the screaming 60's and can also compete with the early long stroke 60's on the bigger props (on a standard muffler, not the Jett). I think the Hanno Special was a bit stronger, but it also ran a full pipe compared to the 90 on a muffler. I am going to be running in a NIB 90 this spring and I am going to try an experiment with a mousse can pipe on the stand to see how it does with that instead of a pipe or muffler. It may become my standard exhaust for the 90 if it works, it should give excellent performance and weigh almost nothing. I had a ST90 on a CG Ultimate bipe years ago and it ran very strong until I dumb thumbed it into the dirt one day. These engines are a well-kept secret, being very reasonably priced and running strong. If you are not stuck with a displacement limit and can live with the side exhaust configuration, they are a great deal.

Skylane, I bought the Deception plans from MAN and someone sent me a scan of the Tipo plans (I can't recall who, it was a couple of years ago).
