I purposely get the belt just a TOUCH too tight when new and after a couple of flights, it settles to the right tension. It shouldn't loosen up after that because of the fibers in the rubber.
BTW, I too just had the belt climb on the Port collar in the tail earlier today; I thought the battery was going dead.
That's when I noticed I could barely turn the rotor and noticed the belt was on the Port collar; and I saw some fraying on the outer edge of the belt. Probably wouldn't have done any harm, but replaced it anyway; and I yanked the idler pulley off as so many suggest here while I was at it.
I guess that's one thing Align didn't address in the new addition. There's not enough 'slap' to need an idler pulley anyway, IMO.
