If you bought your DL from DL-USA, Bob includes really good written instructions. There's a lot of information on my website, links to other pages with info about gasser setups.

The optical kill is just that - it is an electronically-isolated, fiber-optically coupled electronic switch FOR the ignition battery. It uses a channel from the RX, actuated by a tx switch, to disconnect power to the ignition on demand.

You do need an ignition battery on a DL 50.
