thats a beautiful piece of americana, keep it original. Dont remove or replace anything with anything other than a direct replacement. Many places would be very interested in a find like this. Been a few years since I was there but theres a antique toy/hobby display at the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit Michigan. I restored three large dollhouses that my grandmother had as a child (early 30s vintage), donated them to the museum. They were hermaticaly sealed an put on perm. display. Some museums might have an interest or at least be able to give addition information
