I've just bench run my new DL 50, got only 6900 with Menz 22x8 prop, factory needle setting. DA people say their DA 50's should get above 7200 with same prop, out of the box. I have not run my own DA 50 yet, still in the box right now. Have you guys noticed similar numbers? If so, how are people saying DL 50 is just as strong, if not better?
Even at that RPM you will see respectable performance. When I ran the first few tanks of fuel through mine it only tached 6700 rpm. Then as it slowly broke in over the period of a half a gallon of fuel it came up to 7100. And I still dont expect it to max out on rpms till it is fully broken in and I start using synthetic oil. Like some other have stated the prop and many other conditions will determine top rpm. I'll bet even at 6900 rpms you are going to be quite happy with the way this engine will tractor your airplane on uplines. I was.
