RE: DL-50 engine
Well....not yet having my plane to put my DL in I decided to build a simple test stand and run it a bit. Powered the ignition with a 6V lantern battery and fed fuel directly from my can (2 filters BTW). About 8 flips with choke and she popped...choke off, throttle cracked and 2 flips later it purred to life. After about 20 minutes at a smooth RPM just above what I would call a shakey idle, it settled down into a nice rather smooth idle (not siure what RPM....no tach) and would cleanly accelerate to full when I popped the throttle wide open. Prop is a Vess 22B
You can see my rather crude, but effective setup in the pic. String on the throttle tied to a paint stirrer clamped to the mount. I place a 2x4 under the base and pulled my Suburban onto the end, which elevated it slightly, but more importantly let the whole affair shake a bit as it would in the plane. Worked great. After double checking bolts I ran about 1/2 gal through it this evening before sunset. Nice engine...can't wait to see/hear her fly. BTW - the stock muffler is a bit on the noisy side[:'(]. I plan to run a MTW can on this in the plane.
