Mojo Moass build thread
Well he goes
I started building my mojo 2 days ago and must say we dont really need a build thread on this plane. I am by no means a good or fast builder this being only the second kit i would have put together on my own. Normally i build under very close supervision by my dad who has been a house builder for 35 years and been building planes since he was a little guy. His stranded of build is immaculate and will scratch build over an arf any day, that being said i have learn't alot of my techniques off him 1 being it is hard to beat the use of pva (wood glue) over ca. i persanly find it easer to work with as it gives me more time to get things right. here in aussie it has been really warm lately and it still drys fast enough not to be a problem. any way enough about me more about the plane. My finial gear will be
Second hand saito 100 with apc 16/4 wide (only 20 flight got it off ebay for a good price)
4 hs5625 servos
1 hs 85
nimih battery
Hanger 9 titanium push rods and ball links with duel control horns
After just 3.5 hours i have got the fuse and rudder done the center rib is made and ready to go. so in just that short time i say im not far off being half way. the wing looks real dam easy to put together with little tabs on the all the ribs to help get them lined up right. will properly be another 2 hour session and it would be close to being done. will take some pics tomorrow and show you all the work so far.
Now to make a few comment about the kit. At first it all looks good but under a closer look there is alot i would like to talk about.
I would like to start out with saying it is the nicest plane kit i have seen, everything has a cut out to help line up and just glue and place, which is very nice for a builder like me that struggles to get the things straight.
The quality of the balsa seems to very lots from soft to very hard. so i took the time to sort though some of it before i started and worked out where some of the places would benefit from having a hard or soft pieces. 1 of the places i will use a harder piece will be the main wing spar. which to my surprise is all balsa with a carbon and hard wood center, i have never used anything other than hard wood for spars but will use it as i do trust the designers choice.
As i was putting the fuse together i went to grab the triangle gussets to put in the back to only find out they were not square. Not even close. A quick fix but was just surprised.
The moass extensions do make it a little slower to build as you are required to cut or add onto the existing frame work to make up the extra size. My dads comment here was he would rather pay an extra some of money to have these parts cut to the right length rather than making them up. making a moass kit not a mod kit, as it would make a stronger and lighter plane. he said if he was building the kit he would still remake all parts needed not make the extensions like i am. For me i dont know enough about the build to dick with it so i will follow what is required but if i was to build another would recut all parts needed.
My last comment for now is that the kit comes with no hardwhere at all. While i was a little taken by it i understand fully why it is. I know that every person that builds it will have there choice of parts and there would be no way to get it right from factory. As even with most kits and arfs i end up throwing out the hardwhere and starting again. i could only imagine some of the top end flyer's setups will still be different to mine. So i can only assume if they cant get close to what people want why bother at all. Should help keep kit price down for something you would throw out and buy again anyway.
Thanks for reading and will keep all posted of progress as it happens
