RE: DL-50 engine
If you use the pressure tap install, you must be absolutely sure to grind off any protruding threads on the INSIDE of the cover, and that the modification is done with the cover removed. Someone who is unfamiliar with these carbs HAS tried to do this while the cover was still installed, and it turned ugly really, really fast.
My method is to remove the cover, drill with a 1/8" drill, force fit a short piece of 1/8" brass tube into the hole, silver solder it in place, clean the inside, done.
I have done this on every engine I've owned, because all exhibited some degree of unwanted pressure variations due to cowling and airflow around the carb. To me, this is "the" "midrange" fix when things act different in the air than on the ground.
