First you should check if you have too much gain. You said you played with it, but bring it lower until you see if it stops. How low did you reach on the gain ?

Second, if this doesn't work, well maybe you can check that first anyway, but look if the slider moves freely along the boom. If it finds difficulty somewhere it could create this issue .The servo must be really free to move.
