I personally would not build them as strip ailerons, that would be really too much. Like I said before you don't need the flaps but they are fun and give you the experience and knowledge about how to use the flaps, If you dont want them just go ahead and cut them in half and glue the flaps in place(after all is covered). I found some of the plywood not to my liking but most was ok, do a search here on rcu you will find lots of helpful information.
