On O.S. Max 4-stroke engines, the timing mark is NOT at 6:00 o'clock. It should be set so that it's aligned with the center of the pushrod tubes/cam follower when the engine is at Top Dead Center. If it's aligned at 6:00 o'clock, you'll be 1 or 2 teeth off.
