if you have the $150 odd for a park flier and it wont afect your spending on reusable rc gear then by all means buy one.
for my money if you want an electric park flier type plane you are much better off spending the extra $$$ for a picco stick or something similar.

I too did not notice you were not in the USA. Of course you did not reference that you were quoting Aussie law either.
As for the toy reference, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. After all, my wife would clasify the a 7 channel full house sail plane as a toy as well. And certainly those $15,000 giant pattern planes are just big expensive toys. And, she would be right.
They are all toys. Two channel, six channel, glo, gas, it doesn't matter. But if they fly, can be launched, flown and landed under control, they are planes and learning to fly any of them will contribute to learning to fly any other of them. Power source, fuel, channel count and size are not relevent to the flying experience. Learning to manage your plane is.
