I still Maintain however The fighterbird, Firebird etc. are virtually useless if your goal is to fly RC airplanes. The Aerobird is better with adaquate controls but is still an expensive sidetrack.
if your refering to the above statement that you made i agree with you 100%.
thatnks for the apology but it's not called for, i'm the king when it comes to assuming everyone knows what i'm blabering about

if you have the $150 odd for a park flier and it wont afect your spending on reusable rc gear then by all means buy one.
for my money if you want an electric park flier type plane you are much better off spending the extra $$$ for a picco stick or something similar.

I too did not notice you were not in the USA. Of course you did not reference that you were quoting Aussie law either.
As for the toy reference, you are certainly entitled to your opinion. After all, my wife would clasify the a 7 channel full house sail plane as a toy as well. And certainly those $15,000 giant pattern planes are just big expensive toys. And, she would be right.
They are all toys. Two channel, six channel, glo, gas, it doesn't matter. But if they fly, can be launched, flown and landed under control, they are planes and learning to fly any of them will contribute to learning to fly any other of them. Power source, fuel, channel count and size are not relevent to the flying experience. Learning to manage your plane is.

"Most (all?) of the park fliers we get here"
this dosent cover me
when my tag says i'm in Aus
oh well
and the "toy" referance is how there classed under our laws
any way this has all got me interested as most of what i have been saying comes from what i've been told at our club, so i decided to check it out further with the MAAA, CASR heres the guts of it
This approval only applies to model aircraft that are electric powered weighing no more than
500g and having a power source of no more than 9 volts.
(b) The only approved model frequencies are those that are not used by CB radio. These are:-
Model Channel No Frequency MHz
Channel 1 26.995
Channel 2 27.045
Channel 3 27.095
Channel 4 27.145
Channel 5 27.195
Model aircraft operating on the allowed frequencies may be subject to interference from
individuals using 27 MHz to control cars and other toys nearby.
this basicaly is from a guide line to clubs that helps sort out insurance concerns
Oh and this is AUSTRALIAN regulations

You love it i dont.
and thats what makes the world go round.
flying a fire bird is still about a zillion times better than watching the tube and several zillion better than some of the other things that people get sucked in to

I would not fly one of those pieces of garbage if someone gave me one for free. The Wingo is a thosand times better. It is a real plane. The Wingo turns on a dime, not a football field like those rudderless pieces of junk!!! Let me tell you they break after a crash. Every time I am down at the field their are peices of those junky aerobirds and fireflys or whatever they call them all over the field. My Wingo breaks after a hard crash, so what. I slap a piece of tape on it and throw it right back up their. I can repair my Wingo with a bit of packing styrofoam and it dosent cost me a dime to do it, forget about $15 a wing nonsense. The Wingo handles great, glides forever, carries a large camera or vidoe setup, and you can transfer all your radio equipment to another real plane anytime you want. Dont let someone suck you in with that Aeorbird is God nonsense. I think its a cult, you smell the box the Aerobird comes in and you start praying to the Aerobird gods or something. When someone tells you to buy one run for your life!! Get yourself a real plane and you will be a much better pilot for it. Plus you have to fly plenty quick to keep it in the air, unlike the Wingo that flys as slow as you want and darn fast if you want it to.
