Look into the McDaniel or Sullivan Ni-Starters. They twist on, and there is never a problem of them slipping off. They lock on. You can get them long and short, with or without meters and the Sub-C Nicad is replaceable.

You can short out the meter. Like by putting it in your pocket, it makes a contact with your keys, your pocket seems warm........................guess how I know.
