This one worked well for the first day and now It seems it doesnt get clean contact witht the plug. I have to hold it up alittle to it heats the plug up.

Its the same with charging so I cant charge it because i cant hold it.

Do you have any debris up, inside the glow plug starter? Could there have been some fuel on the glow plug which got on the starter and is keeping it from making a proper connection? Is the battery loose and not making a connection with the terminals? Could there be a short in the charger (or the wire)? Could I be running out of ideas???????

Fastfly, what model of glow igniter are you using ? The metered ones are useful but need more maintenance. For your problem, try using cotton swab with alcohol to clean the contacts esp the ones to the glow plug and the battery positive side. Use some metal polishing compound if the contact points are tarnished and clean away all residue with alcohol cotton swab. I have one from GP and a wire joint broke in the metered head recently. Had to take it apart (soldering work). One thing I noticed is that even with a fully charged batt, the meter does not swing full. So, I "magnetized" the meter to get a full swing. But you don't have to do this. Hope this helps................

I have a Tower brand glow starter with meter. I think the meter is toast, but the starter keeps on lighting plugs, so I just ignore hte meter these days. Next one I get won't have the meter.

(btw, the combination of the Tower glow starter and the KB 1L plug can't be beat, I think they were made for each other. It's a long story though , you'll just have to trust me on it)

Have you cleaned the contacts like I said ? I have exactly the same model. Do you have a multimeter in hand as this is quite useful to isolate any open connection ?

Look into the McDaniel or Sullivan Ni-Starters. They twist on, and there is never a problem of them slipping off. They lock on. You can get them long and short, with or without meters and the Sub-C Nicad is replaceable.

You can short out the meter. Like by putting it in your pocket, it makes a contact with your keys, your pocket seems warm........................guess how I know.

Fastfly, there is a cable connecting the positive terminal of the batt and the glow plug contact. If you unscrew the shaft from the battery compartment, you can see it. I suspect that this cable is electrically open and could explain why it is intermittent i.e. you need to tweak it to get it to work. I suggest that you contact Tower for a replacement then.

Fastfly, may I also know what engine and type of plug you are using ? Did you fit the connector to the plug correctly ? If you post a pic it will help.

Basically :

1) fully compress the starter between your thumb and fingers. This will expose the "grabber" from inside the shaft
2) Press the grabber over the glow plug head so that the grabber envelopes the glow plug hexagonal nut completely
3) decompress the starter. There is no way you can pull out the starter from the glow plug as it is locked and secure if installed correctly.

I'll post a pic for you later

Then it is most likely a bad internal connection. You should be able to get a replacement from GP. Good luck..........
