I have my engine offset in my black magic approximately the same amount you describe. Unfortunately I do not have a straight on shot of the amount of rotation, but here is one from the front. it has worked very well with this setup and have had no problems with the header hitting the BP. I am running the Hatori 822 header with the 821 pipe. Ignore the fit of the chin on the front. This was done with only the front bolt in as I was taking these pictures for someone else and I didnt fit the back of the chin.

I have had no problems starting my 1.70DZ over my 1.60DZ. They seem to start and behave almost identical. I wonder if something in your 1.70 is a little tighter. My B&P starter drives both with no problems,
