I usually pull everything out again to paint, except things like servo extensions & air lines provided you can mask them properly or tuck them away so they don't get overspray on them.

It takes a bit of time to pull the stuff out again but you save some of that time because masking is easier. Easier to paint doors & control surfaces all over if they are not attached.

I suppose it depends how fussy you are but I think overspray on bits looks crappy. - John.
