You right-I just finished a ryobi 31 long shaft, cut the crank and threaded it. Hardness of crank is like 1 or 2 C. I'll post a picture in a day or two of my first ever conversion. Lots of fun, just don't know what to put it on. Probably just run it on a stand and set it aside and start another.
