How do you program the RipMax Extra ESC?
Ok, here it is as promised. The instructions below are what came with the speed controller. I am trying to turn on the brake but i cannot tell if i,m in the proper mode or cannot tell if it worked. The only way to verify it as i know is to fly the plane. I do not want to do that because the last time i did the prop was still turning when i slid it in for a belly landing (no landing gear on my glider) and it broke the prop and bent the motor shaft. The instructions say to watch the LED light on the speed controller. My controller does not have an LED light. It only makes the motor beep. Does any know how i can verify the ESC has the brake set on. Any help would be appriciated as my son and i want to take it flying.

Initial setup
1 Turn on the transmittier and place the throttle stick roughly in the middle position
2 Check that the speed controller switch is off and connect the battery
3 Turn on the speed controller if it has a switch
4 Place the throttle stick in the closed postion. The speed controller will beep once.
5 Immediately move the throttle stick to the full power position. The speed controller should beep twice to indicate the full power position has been set.
6 Move the throttle stick back to the closed position. The speed controller should beep once and then tree times to indicate that it is ready to work.
7 From now on, if the throttle position is kept at the low position during turn on the controller will beep once and then three times and will be ready to use.
Note: It is only necessary to make this initial throttle setup again if you are using a different transmittier or the settings have been changed.
Programmable mode setting
(brake on or off / battery type / motor rotation)
1 Turn on transmitter and place stick at closed throttle
2 Turn on the speed controller
3 The speed controller should beep once
4 Immediately move the throttle stick to the full power position, the speed controller will read this position
At this time:-
A) if the throttle stick is moved back to the closed position within 10 seconds, the full power position has been set, the speed controller is ready to use (see initial setup)
B) If the throttle is still placed at the full power position for over 10 seconds, the speed controller will beep multiple times and the LED will flash once constantly to indiacte the speed controller is now in the programming mode setting.
Flashing repeatedly once enters the brake on or off setting. 3 different program features can be setin the controller. (brake on or off / battery type / motor rotation direction) Every time the throttle stick is moved from the full power postion to the closed position and again to the full power position the programming mode will change. The LED will flash in accordance with the features as follows
1) LED flashes once (brake on or off setting available)
2) LED flashes twice (battery type setting available)
3) LED flashes three times (motor rotation setting available)
1) LED flashes once (brake on or off setting available)
2) LED flashes twice (battery type setting available)
At the selected program function to be changed, if you wait for 2 seconds at the closed position the speed controller will beep to indicate that you can now change an existing parameter to a new parameter. In order to change the existing parameter move the stick to the full power position. The selected parameter will indicate as follows.
1) brake on > LED on, brake off > LED flashes
2) battery type > LED on for lipo, LED flashes for nicad/nimh
3) motor rotation direction : forward > LED on, reverse > LED flashes
After setting the required parameter, move the stick to the full power position and then wait for 2 seconds. The speed controller will beep to indicate the selected program parameter has been stored in the controller.
At this stage , if you want to change another program parameter, repeat the procedure above, or if all settings are complete, turn off the speed controller.
