Default RE: Opensource CDI ignition

I ordered the gray Zenoah coil, it will arrive in a few weeks.

I have a question about the high voltage circuit: Is there a special reason why T1 is a thyristor and not e.g. a MOSFET?
Is it because the PIC gives a short trigger pulse to T1 and T1 will conduct only until the bobine will give a burst of flyback voltage? So the thyristor will shut down automatically when all the energy from the capacitor has been released?

I also have a question about the rewinding of the FLPS1 E-core: is it possible to disassemble the E-core so it's easy to wind the copperwire? I think it is possible to disassembly the E-core on the middle so you end up with 2 E's. But that does not make it much easier to wind. How did you (Bigboat) do it?
I'm thinking something like make a stick the same size and shape as the inner of the E-core, and put some paper and tape around it, and then wind the copperwire onto the stick/paper/tape, and then transfer the finished windings with paper and tape to the E-core and reassemble it. But I don't know if this would make a good transformer...
