Keep the trailing link style on the nose. I use the longer 162mm Behotec strut # NL162 and 3.5" (89mm) tire # R4-V. I got these parts thru http://altecarerc.com/

The longer strut has a weak strut link collar & can break, so just swap the thicker one over from your stock strut. The larger wheel uses the same rim, so that's an easy change. You may even be able to use the 176mm strut, but you would need to check your clearances. The longer nose strut greatly improves rotation & lift off. It was one of the best mods I did & will use it when I get the Ultra Lightning.
