We don't try a FET (to expencive and not anywhere to buy), but maybe it's possible to use.
I *cut* the E-core with a sharp nife just at the outside an clue it together with superclue when I'm ready to rewinde the coil.
I don't use paper between the winds, the wire-isolation it selfs is enough.
