As an extension to this thread ..

What, exactly, is the percentage exponential, a percentage of?

It can't be the extent that the curve is 'flattened', as 100% would act like a sudden switch to full deflection (if positive) or not at all until the extreme position, (if negative) when it would suddenly give full deflection.
