What exactly does 28%, for example, negative expotential on ailerons mean? does that mean up or down? thanks.

Exponential either increases or decreases the sensitivity of the control stick near the centered position.

With -28% Expo, the stick is less sensitive and you must move it further to obtain the same control deflection that would be seen with no Expo.

Unless of course you are flying with a JR transmitter. With JR negative expo makes it more sensitive around center. Dont ask me how I know.

If you use Futaba, you enter a Minus number to decrease sensitivity in the center, and a plus number to increase it.

With JR you use a plus number to decrease sensitivity and a minus number to increase it..
All expo works the same. If you use the correct settings.

If you ever forget which way + or - to go for your radio brand, just put in a positive or negative 100%. You will know right now which way to go.

I just tried to use 100% positive expo on a futaba. I would have to be a Grand MAster with a transmitter to be able to fly it like that!

As an extension to this thread ..

What, exactly, is the percentage exponential, a percentage of?

It can't be the extent that the curve is 'flattened', as 100% would act like a sudden switch to full deflection (if positive) or not at all until the extreme position, (if negative) when it would suddenly give full deflection.
